Die Schichten der tiefen Unterkreide (Berriasium) sind in Nordwestdeutschland in einem speziellen brackischen Milieu entstanden und reich an organischer Substanz (Wealden-Fazies). Sie sind dadurch potenzielle Muttergesteine von Kohlenwasserstoffen. Die Kernbohrung 1/08 Husen des GD NRW erschloss eine 88 m mächtige Abfolge dieser Sedimente. Sie wurden palyno- und mikrofaziell sowie geochemisch untersucht, um ihre Ablagerungsbedingungen zu rekonstruieren und eine Einschätzung des Kohlenwasserstoffpotenzials zu liefern. Die Ergebnisse lassen eine Deutung der damaligen Ökologie zu und erlauben die Rekonstruktion von Meeresspiegelschwankungen.
