Märkte

Dresden blickt auf eine Jahrhunderte alte Markttradition. Nachweislich findet auf dem Dresdner Altmarkt der älteste Weihnachtsmarkt Deutschlands statt: Seit 1434 und damit bereits seit über einem halben Jahrtausend. Auf dem Alt- und dem Neumarkt sowie auf weiteren Plätzen wurde regelmäßig mit allerlei Frischwaren "Markt abgehalten". Diese Tradition wurde erst Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts nach Errichtung dreier großer Markthallen unterbrochen.

Im Auftrag der Stadt werden heute zehn Wochenmärkte ausgerichtet. Weitere Märkte aller Art, darunter auch große Flohmärkte, werden privat betrieben.
