    dct:description "Der Karten-Layer Wildnisgebiete NRW umfasst die seit dem Jahr 2011 in Nordrhein-Westfalen ausgewiesenen Wildnisentwicklungsgebiete im Staatswald Nordrhein-Westfalens. Diese Buchen- und Eichenaltholzbestände wurden vom Landesamt für Natur, Umwelt und Klima Nordrhein-Westfalen (LANUK) und dem Landesbetrieb Wald und Holz NRW auf der Grundlage einer fachlich abgeleiteten Konzeption ermittelt. In den Wildnisentwicklungsgebieten findet keine forstliche Nutzung mehr statt, die natürlichen Entwicklungen werden zugelassen. Auf diese Weise werden internationale und nationale Vorgaben erfüllt und ein Beitrag zur Erhöhung der Biodiversität geleistet. Im Dienst enthalten sind gut 300 einzelne Flächen – so genannte Wildnisbiotope, die sich auf rund 100 Wildnisentwicklungsgebiete - im Regelfall FFH- und/oder Naturschutzgebiete - verteilen. Insgesamt werden damit etwa 7.800 ha Staatswald aus der forstlichen Nutzung genommen. Darüber hinaus werden im Karten-Layer weitere ungenutzte Waldgebiete wie die Prozessschutzzone des Nationalparks Eifel und zwei größere aus der Nutzung genommene Gebiete eines privaten Naturschutzvereins bzw. eines Privatwaldbesitzers aufgeführt." ;
